Satria Muda Pertamina (SMP) had to taste their first defeat after returning from the Eid holiday this week. Visiting the Ciracas GOR in East Jakarta, Abraham et al had to admit the toughness of Hangtuah with a score of 79-74. The many turnovers from SMP were one of the main factors that prevented them from winning over Hangtuah. Wahyu Widayat Jati's team were able to convert 16 of SMP's own mistakes into 18 points.
"It's certain that SM didn't play as usual in this game and there was a bit of a trust issue today, but I also take my hat off to Hangtuah, they played amazingly as a team and really wanted to win, so congratulations to them," said SM Pertamina head coach Youbel Sondakh after the match.
Youbel himself added that the trust issue in his team was more about reducing the egos of SM players, so it wasn't a big deal but rather a challenge that they had to overcome.
"Yes, because we all know the players on this team want to show that they are worthy of playing for Satria Muda, everyone wants to win for this team. Now it's just a matter of how we continue to remind each other to keep playing as a team," he said.
The same thing was also said by Widyanta Putra Teja, the player who scored 5 points and 6 assists that day, saying that they need to face this defeat again as a single unit of SM Pertamina. Because according to him, that is one of the factors that will make them return to the winning track again.
"In addition, this is also a valuable lesson for us on how to return to playing after a long break from the game. We need to match our rhythm as an SM team, evaluate accuracy and turnover and of course we must immediately bounce back in other matches," said Widy.
The team based in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta itself will return to playing away on April 16 against Borneo in Pakansari Bogor.
