Satria Muda Pertamina (SMP) stumbled again in the continuation of the IBL this week. Visiting Solo, Youbel Sondakh's team was forced to surrender dramatically by Kesatria Bengawan Solo (KBS) with a score of 81-79.
SMP actually started the match well through three-point shots from Juan Laurent. It was recorded that the forward from Bandung managed to score 5 out of 7 attempts. The team that is identical with the color blue even had a lead with 12 points. However, the momentum turned in the final quarter where KBS was able to appear dominant and scored 12 points in a row. Although they had equalized through goals from Randy Bell and Nash, KBS was finally able to emerge as the winner after Michael Singletary's shot found the target at the end of the match.
"An exciting game for the fans but disappointing for us because of the problems in the last quarter. We let them seize the momentum until they managed to score 12 points in a row. That's what made us very overwhelmed and maybe it was also me who was a bit late in rotating the players, congratulations to them," said Youbel Sondakh after the match.
The same thing was also conveyed by one of their mainstay foreign players, Randy Bell. The factor that they let KBS score a lot of points in the final quarter was the root of SMP's mistakes.
"Obviously this was a tough and intense game for us, we were ahead but unfortunately they were able to come back. We tried our best to regain the lead but unfortunately Michael Singletary played very well. But we are okay because we fought together until the end and will come back better in the next match," said Randy who that night managed to score 21 points and 8 assists.
With this defeat, the meeting record between the two teams is tied because in the first meeting at Britama Arena last January, SMP was able to win with a score of 80-74.
Next, Satria Muda will return to Semarang to entertain Satya Wacana Salatiga on June 7. (FR)
