Satria Muda Pertamina finally welcomed their last foreign legion to face this season in the name of Randy Bell. This figure himself is already familiar to Indonesian basketball lovers because he was once the backbone of the Borneo Hornbills team several years ago.
"Indeed, one of the main factors we finally chose him was because he already knows our league. So it feels like he won't quickly adjust to SM and of course that's good because as we know the league will start soon. Besides that, of course, because I understand the quality of Randy Bell, he is a smart player and has a good basketball IQ," said Youbel Sondakh after training this afternoon.
When asked about the difference in the choice of positions for his foreign players compared to last season, Youbel answered that SM's needs are indeed slightly different. Of course, that is part of the strategy to navigate the next season.
"Yes, it is slightly different, because the composition of our local and naturalized players is also different from last season. Now we have Jarron Crump who can carry the ball, so indeed the rest of us are looking for players who can play up and down. That's why we chose Nash and also Randy Bell. And I'm sure this composition will be solid for next season," he continued.
When asked if there was a special way to dampen the egos of his foreign legions because as we know both Nash, Jarron and Randy Bell are typical players who are able to play the role of main scorers, Youbel said no, that's because he believes they are professional players who want to follow the system of the team they are defending.
"In addition, currently we are playing with a pattern of fast passes and it has been proven that this works well because they also obey that pattern. Moreover, in the past, maybe Randy Bell was still young so it seemed like something, now he is more mature and has more playing experience so I think he is currently even more dangerous. Finally, it will be very interesting for us, the coaching staff, to mix this team so that it becomes more cohesive and complete next season," he concluded.
Randy Bell himself admitted that he was very enthusiastic when he found out that a team as big as Satria Muda wanted his services. Without thinking twice, the player from New Jersey immediately nodded in agreement when Youbel Sondakh contacted him.
"I am very honored by this opportunity. Defending a team with a champion mentality like SM will certainly be a very enjoyable challenge. And I am sure that with my experience and knowledge of the basketball league here, I will quickly blend in with the Satria Muda playing style. SM is a team that is always hungry for the championship title and that is why I am sure that with the intensity and energy that I bring here, our chances of being the best this season will be even wider," said the Philadelphia 76ers fan after training with SM in Kelapa Gading.
