Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung's newest addition, Jordan Ivy-Curry, admitted he was very enthusiastic about starting his first season in the Indonesian basketball league. The Houston, Texas native also said that coming to Bandung was the right choice because of the cool weather and clean air.
Furthermore, the guard also admired Djordje Jovicic. The Serbian coach is well-known for his extensive experience in Europe and Asia.
"He was certainly one of the factors in my choice to play here. I know he's an experienced and great coach. Another factor was that I wanted to learn as much as possible about the distinctive European playing style and patterns that he brings here. There are indeed differences between our basketball styles in America and Europe," he said during a routine practice session at Ctra Arena Bandung.
Jordan himself had wanted to try his luck in the NBA through this year's draft, but unfortunately, he was not selected. However, the former UCF Knights player was one of the players who had the opportunity to try out for the Osceola Magic, the Orlando Magic's G-League team, last September.
When asked about the differences between American and European basketball styles, Jordan replied that Europe focuses on every detail of the game.
"Yes, so I feel that under his leadership, we all have to play perfect basketball. He trains in great detail, both in movement and system. For example, in defense in America, we usually wait for the opponent's movements, but that's not the case with Coach Djordje's style because he asks us to keep moving and be aggressive with and without the ball. Those are the things I want to learn from him. So in the future, I can become a more complete player," he concluded.
Satria Muda Pertamina Bandung has now begun training at their new home, Ctra Arena, and is continuing to prepare for their first match in January. (FR)
