SM Pertamina still lets the fire in their engine burn during the IBL competition break this season. SM, who last played on March 14 against Bima Perkasa at their home Britama Arena, practically no longer has a competitive agenda until early April.
However, that does not mean they are immediately giving the team a break because in fact Avan et al are still training until the end of this week before the Eid holiday break until early April. Assistant coach Cesar Camara said that their current focus is definitely on the players' physical fitness besides of course there are some adjustments to tactics.
"Yes, of course, taking too long a break from the competition will have an impact on several things, one of which is physical fitness. And that's why we from Satria Muda brought in a strength and conditioning coach from Spain, Guillermo Martin. He will focus on helping to manage the fitness and endurance of the players so that it has a good impact on the field later. Because as we know physicality play is one of the important roles to win every game this season," said Cesar.
The man who also trained in the Japanese League also said that in addition to physical training, they also continue to polish the individual skills of SM players. They continue to concoct various training programs to help the players develop better every day.
"We monitor them from the data of each match to then digest it into a training menu. We divide them into each position such as point guard, shooter and big-man. That way they will be more focused on devouring each training program that we provide. And of course we from the coaching staff hope that they will not be disturbed by this break and return with a body and mind that are ready when the competition resumes," he concluded.
SM Pertamina itself is currently in second place in the temporary IBL standings with a record of 11 wins, 2 losses and will return to fight on April 12 and 16 against Hangtuah Jakarta and Borneo Hornbills in away matches.
